SKYRUNNING
Skyrunning was one of the sparks of mankind that illuminated the high mountains. The valley dwellers have always loved to challenge each other to reach ambitious goals up their mountains, such as quickly reaching the summit of a mountain and then descending like lightning to return to the valley: in our area, these were called alpine marches. This spirit in the 1980s of the 21st century was shared by visionaries, above all Marino Giacometti, who reinterpreted it, turning it into a way of thinking that spread throughout the world among the high mountains, capturing the hearts of those who loved to fly with their feet and their minds among the mountains. Thus skyrunning was born: the same spirit as the old alpine marches, ambition, speed, recklessness, but this time with a common thread among all the high mountains of the world and now over longer, more extreme distances. You run between earth and sky, high, very high, breathing the air of wild freedom …
The Royal is one of the most authentic interpretations of this specialty in the world of mountaineering and, together with its twin and more historic Kima Trophy in Val Masino, becomes the archetype of skyrunning in Italy.
