The Amateur Sports Association Baltea Runner, under the patronage of the Gran Paradiso National Park, the Orco and Soana Valleys Mountain Community, in collaboration with the Gran Paradiso Canavese Alpine Guides Association, the XIIth Canavesana delegation of the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps, organizes the ninth edition of the mountain running race called "ROYAL ULTRA SKYMARATHON" and the sixth edition of the race called "ROC SKY RACE".
The races will take place on Sunday, July 30, 2023, starting from Lake Teleccio (1917 m) and finishing at Ceresole Reale – Rifugio Massimo Mila (1583 m). The start is scheduled for 6:30 am.
Path:
The races will take place on mountain trails with challenging uphill and downhill sections, crossing snowy stretches, exposed ledges, steep pastures, and scree slopes. Therefore, excellent physical preparation, experience in tackling even demanding trails, and utmost caution are required.
The routes take place entirely within the protected area of the Gran Paradiso National Park. The organization, trusting in the ecological, environmental, and naturalistic sensitivity of the participating athletes, relies on their cooperation and invites them to maintain appropriate behavior.
All routes will be marked with red colored flags (where not damaged by weather events), white/red ribbons, and red R paint marks. Additional signs may be provided on the day of the race.
All athletes who have reached the age of 18 and possess a medical certificate of fitness for competitive sports of type B1 (i.e. athletics, endurance, and related disciplines) may participate in the competitions. Foreign athletes must certify their fitness for sports activities using the form available for download here.
The registration fees will be as follows:
Registration fee from February 15 to April 30
Registration fee from May 1 to June 30
All participants, except those registered with Fisky, will be required to obtain a daily Fisky membership to be paid at the time of registration (€ 5.00).
If a participant is unable to take part in the competition, the participation fee will not be refunded, nor will it be possible to use the registration for the following year.
For organizational reasons, a maximum limit of 400 total participants will be set for registrations to the two races.
The Race Director, at their discretion, may change and/or modify the race at any time (e.g.: route, starting procedure, course length, finish point, etc.), as well as suspend the competition at any time, in order to safeguard the safety of the athletes. In case of cancellation of the competition, the registration fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.
In the event that athletes, excluded or disqualified, or in the case of suspended or interrupted races, nevertheless decide to continue the race, the Association and the organization hereby disclaim any responsibility for facts or events that may occur thereafter.
Even if not explicitly stated, the regulations apply in relation to the rules established by the ISF (International Skyrunning Federation) www.skyrunning.com.

Each bib is handed individually to each participant upon presentation of a photo ID. Each runner will be given a bib to be worn always visible on the chest or abdomen. The chip is delivered together with the bib. Before the start, each runner must obligatorily pass through the entrance gates to the closed starting area to be registered.
Fixed checkpoints will be established where passing through is mandatory, under penalty of disqualification. These checks will be strict and the decision of the course judges is final.
The following time gates will be established:
Royal Ultra Sky Marathon:
Competitors who pass through the Alpe Foges checkpoint after 10:30 am (4 hours from the start) can choose to switch to the Roc Sky Race. The competitor must communicate this decision to the staff present at the checkpoint; otherwise, they will not be included in the Roc Sky Race ranking.
Roc Sky race:
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to establish additional time gates should certain conditions arise that could compromise the safety of the participants.
Medical and/or paramedical staff will be present along the routes for assistance and rescue; if any of them deems the athlete no longer able to continue the race, the athlete must withdraw and hand in their bib. If the athlete decides to continue the race anyway, they will not be included in the respective ranking, and the organization hereby declines all responsibility for any facts or events that may occur thereafter.
Assistance during the race will be provided by volunteers appointed by the organization, the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps, and the Park Rangers of the Gran Paradiso National Park.
. Athletes eliminated due to lateness may choose to return on their own or wait until the end of the races and be accompanied down by the organization (call the emergency numbers for recovery).
In case of withdrawal from the race, the athlete must inform the nearest checkpoint and return their bib.
